Mandarin is where a lot of families land when they want St. Johns County convenience without leaving Duval. It is an established part of the city, it has the tree cover to prove it, and the retail along San Jose Boulevard means most of your week happens inside a few miles.
It is also right on the county line, which makes it one of the most useful places to understand if you are weighing Duval against St. Johns. The houses on either side of that line can look identical and carry very different tax and school consequences.
