What is genuinely close to the middle of the city — for people moving here to work, not to holiday.
A lot of my clients are moving to Jacksonville for a job — hospitals, the fire service, the port, the bases, the insurance and logistics employers downtown. For them the useful question is not what to see on a weekend away, it is what is close to work.
So this page is centred on downtown rather than the beach. It shows the parks, the food, the shops and the everyday supply within roughly five miles of the centre, which covers Riverside, Springfield, San Marco and the edges of Brooklyn and the Eastside.
Distances are straight-line from that centre point. In a city built around a bend in the St. Johns, that is a rough guide to proximity and nothing more — the bridges decide the actual drive.
